Introduction

The Graduate Institute of International Economics was one of the first five institutes when National Chung Cheng University was established in 1989. In 1992, the Graduate Institute of International Economics expanded to be part of the Department of Economics and initiated its undergraduate and doctoral programs.

In addition to the regular education programs, the department offered pre-master program in 1997 and in-service master program in 1999 to support the government's policy in promoting lifelong learning.

On average, the department admits about 100 freshmen, 36 full-time and 30 part-time master students every year. For the doctoral program, because of the tight job market for the Ph.D. graduates, it shrinks to the size of about 1-3 students annually.

The department's goal is to become a state-of-the-art economics department dedicated to both teaching and research. We promote students' abilities in critical thinking and logical reasoning and develop their analytical and problem-solving skills. Our aim is to increase students' competitiveness in their future careers, by emphasizing both theoretical and practical skills.
